Focus character

 The focus character in my music video is going to be played by Charlotte Grant. The reason I have chosen to use her its due to her confidence and my knowledge that she will not be shy in front of the character. Her style also fits the early 2000's theme of my video which will make it more believable for audiences.

In addition to this, I will also use other characters played by my family and friends. For example, I am planning to have one scene with around 4 other girls at a park. I also plan to use my dad in the beginning of the music video as an intro to the storyline.

Industrial context - music Video history timeline

 I researched the history of music videos from when they were first created up to the current day access. I found this helpful as it made me better understand why things are done the way they are today. I also found that it made me aware of more intertextual references that I did not recognise before such as the imitation of Bob Dylan in Stormzy's music video for 'Know me From.'

Audience research - primary Audience Profiles

 I created 4 audience profile about people who fit with the audience brief. I did this in order to better understand those who my music video will be aimed at and to learn the kind of things they enjoy. I specifically focused on their preferred music artists and their favourite songs as I will be able to use the videos from these people to inspire my own. I also investigated each persons psychographic as knowing the common traits of the target audience will help me to better direct my product.

Planning - early 2000's moodboard

 

I decided to make a mood board presenting some of my initial ideas. This shows the style, popular media and also trends from the early 2000's era which I want to reference in my video as it is a time that the majority of the target audience will feel nostalgia towards. I plan to create intertextuality using some of the TV shows and films that were released at the time and also dress the people in the video in trendy clothing from the early 2000's. My main idea is to have A3 posters displaying teen movies released at the time, hung up in the bedroom of the main talent, doing this at the beginning of the video will ensure that audiences are instantly aware of the era of the video and also get the nostalgic feeling straight away. I also will use technology from the time such as an iPod instead of having current mobile phones to ensure continuity throughout.

Chosen song- Year 3000 by Busted

 

For my music video, I picked to use the song 'year 3000' by the band 'Busted'. The song was released on 13th January 2003 and reached number two on the UK singles chart. The first reason I chose this song is that it accurately fits the brief, which was a narrative song, 'year 3000' clearly tells a story about a boy who built a time machine. The other reason I chose this song is that it was one I enjoy listening to and believe I could make an enjoyable and artistic music video for. The song was covered by the Jonas Brothers in 2006 and I originally debated using the cover as the music for the video but I eventually decided against this as I prefer the style of the original and feel it sounds more authentic.
