NEA Brief

For my NEA, I have chosen to use the music video and online brief. The reason I have chosen this brief is that the music industry is one which I am an active audience member of and I feel confident in the software I will be using to create this work. For my GCSE media NEA I also created a website for a music artist/band and I feel as though this, especially the research tasks, will be highly beneficial for my project. I loved creating the brand surrounding the artist at GCSE and I know that A-level will give me a chance to extend this skill and further my knowledge of star persona's.

News simulation front cover- photoshop

As part of our work studying the news industry we were tasked with taking part in a news simulations activity in groups. I took on the role of editor-in-chief which meant I had to create and write an article for the from page off our newspaper (which was the Guardian). I found this task beneficial as it helped e to learn about how you create products with a clear, intended audience. I chose to do a story on the teacher strikes taking part in the UK as it was one which people with a more left-leaning political opinion would be in support of. Additionally, this work also helped me to improve may practical skills as I had to use many features of Photoshop that I had not experienced using before.

Charity advert annotations - Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support research indesign

Charity advert - Macmillan cancer support

For this task, we had to create an advert for a charity of our choice, we also had to produce a double page spread which displayed out research on the charity. I chose to do my advert on Macmillan Cancer Support as it is a charity close to my heart. I decided to use one large, singular image for the background and I put it in black and white to make it seem like a memory. I put the text in the middle as I felt it was the place it stood out most but made sure not to cover the faces of either person on the advert. The most helpful part of this task for me was that I used inDesign to create the advert and research page which was a software I had not used before. It allowed me to learn about the features of inDesign and why, at times, it may be more useful that Photoshop.

Advert campaign poster - Fanta

This task involved creating an advert for a soft drink company, we worked in groups and each created one advert as part of a larger campaign. In my group, we created a brand identity by each using a variation of the 'get that ... feeling' tagline. For the photo in this advert, I used a reflector as the background and then shone a pink light on it to create the party/disco effect. I felt this drew together the advert as It linked the image with the text and made it clear what the aim was. I also added in the speech bubble with the 'made with fruit juice' line which is featured on the product. I felt as though this further increased the sense of brand identity and also links with advertising psychology as it makes audiences believe the drink is healthier than it actually is.

Daily Mail cover 14th September

When looking at this newspaper front page, I found the language used to be very interesting. In comparison with a lot of other newspaper headlines about the Death of Queen Elizabeth II, this one does not speak of her as a royal. By using only general pronouns, the human side of the Queen is highlighted and audiences are made to feel a much deeper empathy for her grieving family. I also noticed that the sub-headline is still written in gold and purple, despite this being released a number of days after the Death. This shows just how important the event was in national news as the papers are still going against their general branding to honour her.
